Hi everyone!
As many of you may know, I'm a big vinyl collector. Although I put a lot of my vinyl on my YouTube channel, I thought I'd bring it on over to my blog as well. Today's post is all about my favourite coloured/unique vinyl. Enjoy!
Fall Out Boy: Folie à Deux
After debating whether I wanted this in my collection, I caved and bought it (despite it's high price). That said, even though this album wasn't favoured by critics, I think it was great to see Fall Out Boy go in a different direction musically. What I love about this vinyl variant is that the two discs are different colours. Typically a colored vinyl will stay the same colour on both discs, but sides A & B of disc one are red, and sides C & D of disc two are yellow, matching the aesthetic of this album.
Favourite tracks: Disloyal Order of Water Buffalos, I Don't Care, Headfirst Slide Into Cooperstown on a Bad Bet, The (Shipped) Gold Standards, What a Catch Donnie, 20 Dollar Nosebleed.
Against Me!: New Wave
Although I became an Against Me! fan during the White Crosses era, New Wave remains one of my favourite album of theirs. This was when Against Me! began to go mainstream, as they signed to a major label with this one, getting a lot of flack from the punk community. Although their sound changed significantly, I think there was a true development in Laura Jane Grace's voice, and the production changed drastically, making the music sound more uniformed (likely do to with the major label). And although that isn't very "punk" I think it helped to pave the way for their future albums. What I love about this version is it's dipped black and yellow. When I first purchased it and pulled it halfway out of the sleeve, I only saw the black and assumed it was just black, but after pulling out the whole record, I saw the yellow dipped, which was super exciting. Limited to 1800.
Favourite tracks: New Wave, Trash Unreal, White People for Peace, Stop!, Borne on the FM Waves of the Heart, Animal.
City & Colour: Bring Me Your Love
I always say Little Hell is my favourite City & Colour album, which is true, but Bring Me Your Love holds an extra special place as this was the album that truly made me appreciate Dallas Green's solo project. This version is super special as it was reissued last Christmas on Dine Alone Records, with the original album art on a clear disc with an ox-blood splat in the middle. Limited to 100.
Favourite tracks: Forgive Me, Sleeping Sickness, Waiting, Against the Grain, The Girl.
Fall Out Boy: From Under the Cork Tree
If I ever needed to choose one Fall Out Boy album to listen to for the rest of my life, it would without a doubt be From Under the Cork Tree. I remember listening to this album on a loop in elementary school, my first exposure to pop-punk. I have very distinct memories with this album, and any time I listen to it, I always get emotional. I was very excited to receive this Hot Topic version for Christmas last year. This double disc is printed on gold with a maroon swirl. This album is also the Black Clouds and Underdogs version, featuring 5 bonus tracks, 2 of which are remixes of songs on the album. Limited to 2,000.
Favourite Tracks: Our Lawyers Made Us Change The Name of This Song So We Wouldn't Get Sued, Of All the Gin Joints in the World, Sugar We're Going Down, 7 Minutes in Heaven, A Little Less Sixteen Candles a Little More Touch Me.
Panic! at the Disco: Pretty.Odd.
This one was a pleasant surprise for my birthday last year. My boyfriend did some serious digging and found, not only one of my favourite albums of all time on vinyl (before it's most recent re-issue), but also managed to find it on a stunning colour. This purple yellow swirl is different on both sides, adding a little something extra to it. This Hot Topic edition was limited to 1200 copies.
Favourite tracks: Nine in the Afternoon, That Green Gentleman, Northern Downpour, Pas De Cheval, Folkin Around, From a Mountain in the Middle of the Cabins, Mad as Rabbits.
All Time Low: Don't Panic, It's Longer Now!
I've been an All Time Low fan for many years, and every time I get an album of theirs on vinyl, I'm never disappointed. Each of them always contain some cool coloured variant and this one is one of my favourites. This tri-coloured record was limited to 2000.
Favourite tracks: Backseat Serenade, Somewhere in Neverland, The Irony of Choking on a Lifesaver, Outlines, Oh Calamity!
Green Day: Nimrod
After falling in love with Green Day's American Idiot, then Dookie, Nimrod was the next album that exposed me to my favourite band. I like Nimrod as it kind of has this in between sound of Dookie and Nimrod's follow up, Warning. Green Day sound a little more grown up, and not nearly as fast and angry as the early years of Dookie. This version is the 20th anniversary re-issue, printed on yellow vinyl. My favourite thing about it is the Green Day etching on the fourth side (see below).
Favourite tracks: Nice Guys Finish Last, Redundant, Scattered, King for a Day, Good Riddance.
